Tillväxt måste vi ha i ett samhälle för att ge ökad välfärd åt medborgarna. Det är det sambandet som förklarar varför rubriken till essän – Ett radikalt politiskt program för tillväxt (=ökad välfärd) – ser ut som den gör. För det är lätt förstå att utan tillväxt i meningen ökat förädlingsvärde har vi ingenting att ta av för att göra vård-skola-omsorg ännu bättre, för att investera mera för miljön och klimatet, för att minska arbetstiden, för att kunna få ännu längre semester, för att köpa det vi vill köpa. Det är en rimlig gissning att skulle vi veta vad det faktiskt skulle innebära att under en längre tid leva i ett nolltillväxtsamhälle (Lars Gustafsson har beskrivit ett sådant samhälle i en av sina böcker), eller bara leva i ett samhälle med lägre relativtillväxt än i grannländerna, ja då skulle vi antagligen ganska snart få framgångsrika politiska partier vars vitigaste credo var: Öka tillväxten!
Jag diskuterar i essän vad tillväxt betyder i praktiken i Det nya företagets samhälle (vad som menas med Det nya företagets samhälle kan man läsa om här) och formulerar i sex punkter konturerna av en, tror jag, framgångsrik tillväxtpolitik. Den politiken ligger en bra bit bort från dagens svenska partiprogram – och det gäller oavsett om vi talar om höger eller vänster. Det är det som motiverar ordet ”radikalt” i rubriken.

Today, I went to the beach with my kids.
