Om Karl-Henrik Pettersson
Mera faktabetonat gäller följande: Jag är numera 80+, akademiker, teknologie licentiat (även om det snarare är en ekonomie licentiat), arbetade några år på institutionen för industriell ekonomi på KTH, var ett år vid Stanford i USA. Kom hem till Sverige 1967, blev personlig assistent till Jan Wallander, då VD för Sundsvallsbanken. Arbetade under större delen av 1970-talet på dåvarande industridepartementet, som departementsråd, senare som planeringschef. Blev 1978 VD för Sveriges näst största sparbank (i Göteborg), och efter 1981 VD för den största, Första Sparbanken. Det var jag fram till 1991 då jag, liksom de flesta andra bank-VDar, i 90-talskrisen kölvatten tvingades bort från bankvärlden. Efter det återgick jag lite halvt om halvt till det akademiska genom ett mångårigt samarbete med Forum för småföretagsforskning (det som idag heter Entreprenörskapsforum), har drivit ett eget konsultbolag och administrerat min gård Groveda tre mil söder om Linköping (där jag numera bor). Jag är skild, har två barn, en journalist och en läkare.
Parallellt med allt det här har jag skrivit om det jag sett och upplevt, nästan allt har kretsat kring samhälle, ekonomi och politik. Det har med åren blivit många artiklar, krönikor och böcker. Den första boken publicerades 1969, för mer än 50 år sedan. 1973 kom Det herrelösa industrisamhället som fick en enorm uppmärksamhet, inte bara i Sverige. Andra böcker med fokus på ekonomi, politik och samhälle är Politikerna på efterkälken (1987), Det exploderande storföretaget (2004) och Det nya företagets samhälle (2004). På mitt eget fackområde, bank- och finansmarknaden, har jag bland annat skrivit Bankkrisen inifrån (1993), Banker – behövs dom? (1993) och (tillsammans med andra) Vad kan vi lära av kraschen? (2005). Så gott som samtliga dessa böcker har givits ut av SNS. Under några år arbetade jag med bland annat det svenska vårdsystemets organisation, resultatet, boken Så skulle det kunna bli, publicerades 2008 inom ramen för FSFs forskningsprogram kring entreprenörskap i offentligt sektor. Våren 2012 publicerades Dagbok från USA – anteckningar om ett samhälle i fritt fall (som också finns som e-bok i engelsk översättning). En bankdirektör med skägg, med undertiteln Om hur livet blev – och varför det blev som det blev, kom ut 2015 på Ekerlids Förlag (läs mera om den här). Vad vill vi ha för slags samhälle kom ut sommaren 2021 och är i huvudsak en sammanställning av artiklar publicerade på bloggen. Värderingar
Det är rimligt när vi talar om en blogg om ekonomi och samhälle att läsaren blir informerad också om författarens värderingar och perspektiv. Jag försöker visserligen efter bästa förmåga gifta ihop det vi faktiskt vet med det jag själv kan eller har erfarenheter av. Men det vore fel att inte medge att det finns partier på bloggen som i delar är spekulativa.
Vad kan man då säga om värderingarna? Ja, å ena sidan att jag är direktörsmässig ut i fingerspetsarna i min tro på marknadsekonomin. Det speglar, förutom en akademisk utbildning och forskningsfostran med tonvikt på ekonomi, mina många år som företagsledare. Just kombinationen av teoretisk kunskap och praktisk tillämpning blir inte bara ett kraftfullt verktyg för den som vill förstå och påverka skeendet i ett företag eller i samhället. Det sätter också djupa spår i personligheten. Var jag som student inte helt övertygad om kapitalismens överlägsenhet så blev jag det garanterat efterhand som jag konfronterades med både den politiska och ekonomiska verkligheten. Eller rättare sagt – jag insåg att det perfekta systemet inte fanns. Jag är således när det här skrivs starkt övertygad om att marknadsekonomin/kapitalismen är långt överlägsen alla andra kända modeller för att ordna produktion och resursfördelning och för att skapa tillväxt.
Å andra sidan är jag långt mera övertygad om politikens grundläggande betydelse för marknadsekonomin än vad möjligen flertalet av mina direktörskollegor är. Den ståndpunkten är ganska säkert påverkad av många år i kanslihuset och den insikt om vad politik kan uträtta som man då får. Men inte bara det. Den är också påverkad av vad Ronald Coase, Paul Romer och andra ekonomer med djup förståelse för sambandet mellan ekonomi och politik har lärt ut. Politiken måste få en renässans i det moderna samhället. Det är något grundläggande fel när som idag många människor, inklusive många i näringslivet, betraktar politiken som en inte särskilt viktig aktivitet i samhället. För en smula eftertanke gör klart att ingenting kan vara mera centralt för samhället, och i sista hand för den enskilda människans inkomster och välfärd, än politiken.
