Bakgrunden är den här:
När jag arbetade med researchen för Det nya företagets samhälle (SNS, 2004) läste jag in mig på den ekonomiska forskning som granskar de så kallade immateriella rättigheterna, här definierat som patent- och copyright. Och ju mer jag läste, själv tänkte och analyserade desto mer tveksamt blev det i mina ögon om patentet och upphovsrätten verkligen idag är samhällsinstitutioner som ger mer tillbaka än vad de kostar. Det blev ett kapitel i boken och när jag var ute pratade om boken i olika sammanhang under 2004 och 2005 upptäckte jag att just frågan om de immateriella rättigheterna var hetare än någon annan. Det var de första dyningarna från det som senare kom att bli stormen kring fildelningen.
Det här ledde till att jag gjorde en viss bearbetning och utvidgning av kapitlet och sammanfattade det i rapporten Patent och copyright. Behövs det? Rapporten, som givits ut av dåvarande Forum för småföretagsforskning (FSF), dagens Entreprenörskapsforum och kan gratis laddas ner på deras hemsida här (vilket, som sagt, gjorts av fler än 30 000 personer).
En något mera lättillgänglig, uppdaterad och kortare version av rapporten finns i utställningskatalogen till Likt Unikt, Tekniska museets utställning om immaterialrätten som öppnade våren 2008.
